Margaret Easter holds National Plant Collection® of Thymus (Scientific Status) and is an International Cultivar Registration Authority for Thymus (ICRA). She runs a backgarden nursery, LW Plants, in Harpenden – plants from a plantsman's garden.

She has gardened organically since the mid 1980s and the garden is planted for year round interest and for wildlife. She has been researching Thymus nomenclature since 1992 and it soon became apparent that it was a complete muddle!

Over the years she has been sorting out names, working in consultation with the RHS Advisory Committee on Nomenclature and Taxonomy.

The Thyme Handbook was published during summer 2009 by Plant Heritage. In December 2009, with the aid of a grant from The Finnis Scott Foundation, Margaret self-published the International Thymus Register and Checklist under her own imprint – Owl Prints. Currently an e-book The Big Book of Thyme is in preparation and will be published in summer 2010. It will be fully illustrated and include descriptions of all British, European and American thymes.
